The dreaded theory test, read this section carefully for information on how to book
and a completely free full theory test resource provided by FINELINE DRIVING ACADEMY.
As you probably already know, you need to pass your theory test before you can book
your driving test. Additionally, the driving test must be booked within 2 years
of your theory test pass date as this will ensure the knowledge you learned from
the theory test is fresh in your mind for the driving test.
The theory test consists of two segments, there are 50 multiple choice questions
and a video hazard perception part, you need 43/50 questions answered correctly
to pass the multiple choice and 44/75 in the hazard perception part of the test.
You need to pass both parts, if you pass one part but fail the other it is regarded
as a fail and you will have to retake the whole test. We recommend you get yourself
a copy of the Highway Code to help you pass your theory and buy yourself an DSA
endorsed DVD, Fineline Driving Academy recommends ‘The official complete theory
test’ which can be purchased via the following link.
Below is a very helpful video provided by the DSA containing thorough information
regarding the theory test, press play and check it out!
HOW TO PASS THE THEORY TEST DSA GUIDE:
The current price of the theory test is £25, and you can book online via the official
website. You may also wish
to book by calling via the phone number 0300 200 11 22, make sure you have your
provisional driving license number to hand if booking via this method. Fineline
Driving Academy strongly recommends booking solely via this website, there are many
third party websites which will book the test for you however some have been known
to overcharge by as much as £20 and even fail to book the test after payment has
been taken! Beware of websites offering free retests if you fail, there have been
some high profile cases where these promises fail to materialise and you could be
left with no test booked and also out of pocket!
To find your closest theory test centre, just enter your postcode on this website.
Ensure you book at a centre close to you, check parking arrangements if someone
will be driving you there by visiting the place before the test day as you don’t
want to get lost on the test day. There are lockers provided for you to put your
personal belongings in, you cannot take anything in with you to the test room and
talking to fellow candidates during the test is a big NO-NO, you will probably be
caught by the eagle eyed invigilator and not only will you be asked to leave, you
will also lose your test fee.
The theory test will last 57 minutes long and judging from feedback obtained from
our clients at Fineline Driving Academy, we’re constantly told this is more than
enough time to complete every question in the multiple choice half of the test and
complete the hazard perception test. Please be aware that if you require special
needs for your theory test, please make this known when booking as there will be
facilities at the theory test centre to help. There are over 21 languages available
to listen to the test in, as well as assistance if you have hearing or reading difficulties.
If you come across a question which confuses you or that you are not sure about,
you can flag the question to come back to once you have completed the remaining
questions. This is a useful feature which allows you to give those tricky questions
a good old think without worrying about the remaining questions.
Impersonating at a theory test.
Unfortunately, acting as somebody else for the purposes of a theory test has become
rife in recent times. This is ILLEGAL and could result in the impersonator getting
a conviction or even going to jail. You can help blow the whistle on illegal impersonation
during theory tests by calling the DSA integrity team on 029 2058 1155 to report
impersonation at a theory test.
